Cosatu calls for investigation of the deaths of the eight miners

The Congress of South African Trade Union said it is saddened and shocked by the death of the eight mineworkers at Harmony Gold. 

Cosatu Spokesperson Patrick Craven said this tragedy must be a wake-up call to redouble efforts to reduce deaths in mines as quickly as possible. 

“All we can hope is that the whole mining industry can do even more to put a stop to fatalities like this.” Craven said

He also said the rate of fatalities is falling, which is encouraging but at 112 which was the last published figure a year ago is still far too many.
