Alleged poaching at Hout Bay on the increase

Cape Town Police have raised concern about the alleged increase in poaching at the sea in Hout Bay.

This after police noticed a small blue-grey vessel which allegedly had poachers in and as soon as they noticed police they fled off. Police Spokesperson FC van Wyk said they confiscated a bag filled with abalone and crayfish.

FC van Wyk said later spotted a small grey in colour vessel in the water when the poachers of the vessel noticed the police they fled off in the direction of kommetjie they turned into a bay and ran onto the rocks where the poachers jumped off and fled into the bushes.

Van Wyk said members ceased a bag containing abalone and crayfish and two concrete diving sets on board the vessel, the vessel a rubberduck was confiscated and taken to Cape Town Harbour for further investigation. They counted 50 units of abalone and 7 crayfish in the bag and were later booked in at Table Bay Harbour Police Station.
